Attention all South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia property owners! If your property was damaged by the storms that commenced on September 27, 2015 through October 15, 2015, continue reading.
The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) requires a policyholder to send the insurer a complete, signed and sworn-to-proof of loss within 60 days after the date of loss.
On November 18, 2015, FEMA issued a Bulletin, W-15060, in which it extended the time frame for policyholders to submit their claims by an additional 60 days. In the Bulletin, Roy E. Wright, FEMA’s Deputy Associate Administrator for Insurance and Mitigation for FEMA stated:
In many instances, access to NFIP-insured buildings is not possible due to damage to the infrastructure and high water. These conditions may delay the claims process for many NFIP policyholders, and NFIP policyholders may encounter difficulties filing a timely proof of loss for claims arising from this event.
With this additional 60 day extension, a policyholder will have a total of 120 days after the date of loss to submit the requisite signed and sworn to proof of loss with their NFIP insurer.
