Individuals affected by Hurricane Matthew have many issues to deal with while they try to rebuild their lives. And while victims deal with the stress of rebuilding, it is important that they do not miss crucial deadlines, such as applying for federal assistance from FEMA.

Individuals who have underinsured or uninsured damages or losses from Hurricane Matthew and reside in one of the following designated counties must register for federal disaster assistance no later than Friday, December 16, 2016:

  • Brevard
  • Duval
  • Flagler
  • Indian River
  • Nassau
  • Putnam
  • Seminole
  • St. Johns
  • Volusia

Remember:

Do not wait to apply.
• FEMA grants do not have to be repaid, are nontaxable, and do not affect eligibility for Social Security, Medicaid, or other federal benefits.
• FEMA cannot duplicate assistance covered by insurance, however:

o If the payment you received from your insurance is not enough to meet your losses, you may be eligible for assistance.
o If you have damages or losses not covered by your insurance you may be eligible for assistance.

You can register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).

In addition, SBA Loans with low-interest rates are available to assist homeowners, renters, businesses and private nonprofit organizations to rebuild disaster-damaged property. If you received an application, you should complete and submit it as soon as possible—there is no fee to apply or obligation to accept it if approved.
