I received a question in response to my post about the second extension of time FEMA granted for Hurricane Matthew policyholders to submit their completed, signed, and sworn to proofs of loss for flood damage.
Because there may be others who have the same inquiry, I thought I would address it in another blog post.
In my previous post I referred to a sentence from the bulletin that stated:
This extension applies to NFIP claims associated with the following FICO numbers: 680 (Florida), 681 (North Carolina), 356 (Georgia), 357 (South Carolina), and 358 (Virginia), whether the NFIP issued the policy directly or through the Write Your Own (WYO) Program.
How do you know if your claim is associated with a particular FICO number?
FICO is an abbreviation for “Flood Insurance Claims Office” which is defined as “[a]n NFIP claims processing office set up in a catastrophe area when a sufficient number of flood claims result from a single event.”1
Because Hurricane Matthew produced torrential rain and widespread flood damage in several states, in NFIP Clearinghouse Bulletin W-16074, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) assigned FICO numbers 680, 681, 356, 357, 358 to track the claims arising from this event. As a reference, here are the adjusted dates of loss for Hurricane Matthew flood claims:
State FICO Number Dates of Loss
Florida 680 October 5, 2016 – October 12, 2016
North Carolina 681 October 6, 2016 – October 26, 2016
Georgia 356 October 6, 2016 – October 11, 2016
South Carolina 357 October 6, 2016 – October 26, 2016
Virginia 358 October 7, 2016 – October 11, 201
The additional 60-day extension of time applies to all policyholders who have claims for flood damage resulting from Hurricane Matthew on the above-listed dates of loss.
