The American Policyholders Association (APA) has reported that CBS 60 Minutes is running a story this Sunday evening about altered estimates by claims managers, which result in underpayments to policyholders. The APA notice states that “a disturbing scandal” uncovered by Merlin Law Group attorney Steven Bush and the APA resulted in whistleblowers reporting on insurance estimates fraudulently altered to underpay claims to hurricane victims.

The APA announcement notes that CBS 60 Minutes conducted a yearlong investigation of insurance insiders and whistleblowers who say that several insurance carriers were, in some cases, using materially altered damage reports, which resulted in drastically lower claims payments. This is no surprise to many policyholders, public adjusters, and policyholder attorneys, who often claim this is a common practice that is rarely revealed because to do so would result in termination.

The investigative piece will run this Sunday, September 29, at 7 PM EST, right after the football game.
