I lost an entire appraisal debate in the first few minutes against Good ‘ole Steve Badger. Simply knocked out. Badger got up early in the morning and read yesterday’s post, Participate In Your Democracy—Even If You Are Called a Bazooka. He must be taking some type of mind-enhancing drug because his creativity has never been keener. He devised a strategy of baiting me into discussing a change he made to his slide deck. His first slide was the following:

I commented that Badger must really have some personal issues if he thinks others view him as some fierce insurance angel with ripped abs and a halo.

He then commented that this is better than Florida’s insurance commissioner calling me a “Bazooka” and then showed the audience the following slide:

Boom! I was down on the ground, and insurance attorney Matt Monson counted to ten as the audience roared.

On a more serious note, this may have been one of the most engaging discussions and debates we have had about appraisal because some of the people who made the examples we provided were in the audience and participated professionally in their view of those issues.

Bob Norton had an all-star crew lined up to present at this Insurance Appraisal and Umpire Association (IAUA) conference, including Matt Monson, speaking about the need and details of Louisiana’s new appraisal statute. My prediction is that more states will start to consider and pass legislation concerning appraisal.

My hat is off to the leaders of the IAUA for putting together such an informative conference.

Badger and I will be at it again in his hometown of Dallas for the Windstorm Insurance Conference. We will be speaking about the hottest topics of property insurance law and the trends as we see them from the policyholder versus insurance company view. Here is a link to register for that Conference.

I have a short recovery time, but I promise to be prepared and do better representing policyholders in the next debate. Our debate will feature an open bar for everybody to get into an open mind, ready for participation and another slugfest. You should not miss it.

Thought For The Day
