Last week, Jason Cieri and I presented our second CLE course on Broadway in New York City: Frequently Debated First-Party Property Insurance Issues.
In 2016, in response to a blog Jason had posted here on Property Insurance Coverage Law, Lawline asked him to present a continuing legal education course on property insurance. Jason invited me to join him and during the summer of 2016, we presented Hot Topics in First Party Property Claims.
The in-studio presentation was given live but as is customary with Lawline, the library has an on-demand video. Now that our original course has over 1000 positive ratings, we were asked to come back to Lawline to present a second course.
Frequently Debated First-Party Property Insurance Issues has now been released.
In this course, we discuss property damage insurance issues that are prevalent in our practices, and take a look at how the courts have dealt with some recent controversial areas of coverage. Cases we discuss include:
- Liberty Ins. Corp. v. Barnes, No. PX 17-2058 (D. Md. April 3, 2018).
- Lee v. Mercury Ins. Co., No. A17A0624 (Ga. App. Nov. 3, 2017).
- Hicks v. American Integrity Ins. Co., No. 5D17-1282 (Fla. 5th DCA Feb. 23, 2018)
- Williams v. Gulf Ins. Co., 39 Mass.App.Ct. 432 (1995)
- Surabian Realty Co., Inc v. NGM Ins. Co., 462 Mass. 715 (2012).
- Spring Glen Apartments LLP v. Arch Specialty Ins. Co., No. 3:17-cv-00028 (D. N.D. April 2, 2018).
In addition, Jason and I discuss some new provisions/endorsements we’re seeing in insurance policies regarding roofs, matching, and also an exclusion relating to allowing your property to be used as a vacation rental.
Lawline is not a new platform for education. It was founded in 1983 as a broadcast TV show that introduced thought provoking programming about the legal industry. During the 2000s, Lawline evolved by being one of the first websites to bring CLE online.
Our mission is to provide a seamless way for attorneys to stay compliant and develop their professional skills so they have more time to focus on whatever matters most to them. We’ve built a catalog of over 1,400 studio quality CLE videos and audio.
If there is an emerging topic or area of the law you are interested in, there is a video presentation that you can purchase and watch from your PC or even on their new mobile app.
Jason and I hope you check out our videos!
