The vast majority of my adult professional career has been advocacy for policyholders trying to convince their own insurance companies to pay for claims their customers have made. After hearing countless stories and knowing the various battles fought, a number of my colleagues and friends kept pushing me to write a book on the topic and what I have learned.

Merlin Law Group Chief Operating Officer, Keona Williams, pushed me to write it.
The subtitle is just as important because much of the book is about what to do about your insurance and your claims so you can avoid having to hire a lawyer and file a lawsuit. Let’s face it, do you look forward to hiring an oncologist? For the same reason, I am certain that while my clients may find that my passionate advocacy for their causes helps them rest easier, they do not like to be in the predicament of having to hire an insurance lawyer to get their insurance company to pay their claims.
As a result, I devoted a good deal of the book about practical things all policyholders can do to help reduce the chance that litigation will be needed. I hope my advice will be listened to because it should not take an insurance lawyer to get an insurance company to pay claims.
Today, I will be in Tallahassee fighting Insurance company lobbyists with legislation that reduces rights for Florida policyholders. I talk about the need to support organizations such as United Policyholders, who educate legislators and insurance regulators against the army of insurance lobbyists who are paid with premiums from insurance customers whose rights they are ironically trying to reduce, and allow insurance companies to operate without public scrutiny. These fights are also discussed in Pay Up!
