The vast majority of people working for insurance companies, third-party administrators, independent adjustment firms, and engineering firms are honest and hardworking folks who want the insurance product to work properly. Those same people hate to hear and see instances of fraud and improper claims conduct by anybody—including claims managers and others they work with.
As I noted in Insurance Company Corrupt Claims Culture Exposed by Washington Post, Washington Post journalist Brianna Sacks could only write her article exposing wrongful claims practices in Florida because people working within the insurance claims industry disclosed information about those wrongful practices.
If you work for an insurer, third-party administrator, engineering firm, or independent adjusting firm and witness illegal acts which result in underpayment to policyholders, the American Policyholders Association (APA) has set up a whistleblower program and portal with a dedicated and experienced industry staff person where these illegal acts can be reported. While there is the portal and an email address to report these acts, Larry Burtis, whose cell is (612) 669-1460, heads up this program for the APA.
I want to encourage those of you working in the insurance industry to share this post with others who may be in the same shoes as you—working for an unethical boss or a claims management that has come up with illegal claims handling methods. I know there are many of you who are sick and tired of claims managers’ newest claims processes that are unethical and illegal but do not know what you can do about it.
Thought For The Day
The purpose of whistleblowing is to expose secret and wrongful acts by those in power in order to enable reform.
